Wilde Child Travel: Travel Safely

The travel season is upon us and, unfortunately, it is a more tense and stressful than normal . Getting on a plane to visit your family and friends have been more nerve racking than ever with all of the attacks that have been happening all over the world. Part of the goal of the unfortunate events being reported by the media is to create panic. There is no way for us travelers anticipate what could happen next, the only thing we can do is to prepare ourselves for the worst and continue with our lives. It is hard to prepare for emergency while traveling, I know. That is why I have rounded up some of the most useful safety travel apps that can be downloaded over various platforms (smart phone, tablets, and computers) so you can carry them with you and always be informed in case of an emergency! 1. TravelSafe by BoaLogik: Provides important information in times of a crisis. Applied to most countries, TravelSafe has the basic emergency numbers (fire department, police, hospitals)

Wilde Child Travel: 24 Hours in Vienna

Vienna is a beautiful city. I didn't know what to expect when arriving, but thoroughly enjoyed my stay, non-the-less. I spent more than 24 hours in Vienna, but if that's all the time you've got here is what I would do with that one day! (St.Stephen's Cathedral) Breakfast  Jausen Station is a small cafe/restaurant near the garden maze of Schonbrunn Palace. It's a peacefully little place to sit down, chill, have some great food and watch birds. What a better way to start your day in Vienna than with a royal breakfast.   Sacher torte; even after a full breakfast I had to try this famous Viennese treat. Schonbrunn Palace Right around the corner from Jausen Station is the sprawling Schobrunn Palace . You can walk around for free or buy a ticket to go inside. There is a zoo and a maze you can walk through, if you're up for it. (Front of Palace) (paths leading to fountain, zoo, and maze) (Back

Wilde Child Travel: Santorini

I had been planning a trip to Greece for about over a year. The closer and closer the travel date came the more turmoil the country seemed to be experiencing. I had not idea what I would be facing once I arrived. The first stop was Athens (will put up photos in the next post) and I was shocked that the city seemed unaffected by the economical troubles that had been portrayed in the media. The second stop was Santorini ( Thira). The people on the island seemed even less bother by the government's problems. If you follow me on Instagram (Wildechildyup) then you've probably already seen some of these photos!  We got to Santorini around 9 in the morning. Our hotel wasn't ready for check-in yet so we walked down the street and rented four-wheelers and drove to one of the many beaches. Every destination on the island is no more than a 30 min drive on motor bike or in a car. In a bus it may take longer.  I rented a four-wheeler for 25 euro for 24 hours. The exp

Wilde Child Travel: Train v. Plane

Are you trying to decide between a train ticket and a plane ticket? I can help make that choice a little easier!  Trains: Pros -Scenic views: hills, vineyards, and cows -Lots of leg room; you can walk through the cars to get exercise -No passport needed -No liquid restrictions -No luggage restrictions, weight or size -Plugs for electronics  Cons -Food; it's not included in ticket price -Travel Time is longer; they stop at various stations. Pay attention or you'll miss your stop -Usually more expensive than a flight -Class by cars; if you sit in the wrong car you could get a fine which results in you paying MORE! -Thieves. There are thieves everywhere, but on trains you need to keep your luggage within eyesight. Planes: Pros -Faster -Good for international travel -Cost less; especially when you use reward miles or points -Beverage and food are included, depending on the length of the flight -Easy Seating with designated sea

Wilde Child Travel: Long Haul Must Haves

On long trips there are a few things I make sure I always have with me. These items are beside my cellphone, wallet, jacket, and every other everyday item I carry with me. When I am on a long haul flight or train ride, I want these things within my reach at all times! 1. Archer Farms Monster Trail Mix: It's my favorite snack. The bigger bags have a resealable mouth that is great so you don't have to eat it all in one sitting. I keep this with me so I won't have to get more expensive snack at the train station or airport. It contains chocolate, peanut butter, peanuts, and raisins. Salty and sweet! 2. Ipod: I have to have my music. I like blocking out everything around me - especially if someone near me is snoring. 3. Cell phone charger: Must keep my phone juiced. 4. Sunglasses: A necessity, especially on trains. I like to wear them on trains when I'm sleeping to help keep light out of my eyes. 5. Hand sanitizer: Any kind is good, but I love the Herbalif

Wilde Child Travel: Tips & Advice for Rome

Year ago I studied abroad in Rome, Italy. To this day I still have friends asking me advice on where to stay and what to do while in Rome. Now I will share my tips and suggestions with you! You're going to Rome!! My most favorite place in the world :) Yes, I know you are going to do all of the touristy things you see suggested on various travel websites and do all of the things you've seen in Roman Holiday. Go for it! Below is information and a few tips I have collected and still use when I go back to visit - which I will be doing this summer!  Coming in to the City: There are two airports; Ciampino and Fiumicino.  Ciampino is the smaller of the two and is not used by many airlines. Right now it is used by Ryanair and Wizz. The practical way of getting to and from this airport is by shuttle bus.  Fiumicino is bigger and is used by a good deal more airlines. You could take a taxi, shuttle bus, or a regular bus. However, a cheap and faster way i
