Wilde Child Travel: Santorini

I had been planning a trip to Greece for about over a year. The closer and closer the travel date came the more turmoil the country seemed to be experiencing. I had not idea what I would be facing once I arrived. The first stop was Athens (will put up photos in the next post) and I was shocked that the city seemed unaffected by the economical troubles that had been portrayed in the media. The second stop was Santorini ( Thira). The people on the island seemed even less bother by the government's problems. If you follow me on Instagram (Wildechildyup) then you've probably already seen some of these photos!

We got to Santorini around 9 in the morning. Our hotel wasn't ready for check-in yet so we walked down the street and rented four-wheelers and drove to one of the many beaches. Every destination on the island is no more than a 30 min drive on motor bike or in a car. In a bus it may take longer.

I rented a four-wheeler for 25 euro for 24 hours. The expenses (food, drinks, bus transport to airport) on the island were fairly inexpensive.

Two beach chairs and one umbrella was a flat fee of 5 euro for the day.

(On the road to Oia)

No matter what direction you looked, the views were spectacular.

Hand painted decorations from a small family owned boutique.

Sunset is the biggest event of every day. A good deal of people reserve tables at restaurants with great views of the sunset.

Reservations are not always necessary, you could always find a great bar (like we did: Franco's Bar) and sit in one of the reclining chairs and enjoy the show with a glass of wine. To compliment the sunset bars and restaurants even have "Sunset Music" to play dramatic finishes as the sun disappears behind another island.

Kyoto, Japan | Owl Family Cafe

Japan was one hell of a trip. There were some events that were planned ahead of time and the first event was time at the Owl Family Cafe ! I've been beyond excited about this for months now and am very glad that I was able to do this!  At first the cafe was frustrating because we arrived 15 minutes before our scheduled time, as was instructed on my reservation. We arrived at the location stated only to find out that the cafe had MOVED ! It took 30 minutes to find the new location. I was really afraid that we would miss our reservation. Luckily the cafe understood the lateness and we got to play with owls!  The price was very inexpensive, about $15 per person, depending on how much time you purchase. I purchased 1 hour. The price included 1 hour with the owls, one hot or cold beverage, and the workers take photos of you with the owls on your behalf (using your phone or camera).  I loved the Japanese beverage shelves. The top shelf has a thick white ...

ABQ International Balloon Fiesta 2017

For the longest time I've been dreaming of going to the Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta. This year I just decided to knock this item off my "Travel List" (you know, the list of places and things that inspire you to get up and go). I put the balloon fiesta on my list for a reason, so why not go? There's a point in time when you get tired of dreaming of something and want to see it in real life, up close and personal.  Don't forget to check out the video below. It brings to life all of the colorful beauty that is the fiesta! I bought a ticket online before leaving, they were $10 each (but there are various packages and offers on the website). Honestly, it's more expensive to catch a ride the balloon park than to get tickets.  Seriously, transportation to the park was THE WORST part. If I wanted to catch a ride on the coach buses near my hotel it would have been $45 round trip...um, no thanks. The International Balloon Fiesta is a very big event i...

Group Travel: How to Start!

Traveling with friends can be a blast. Sometimes, even before you book tickets/hotels, it can also be a pain. The group has to get together, decide on location, dates, duration of trip, where to stay, and more. I believe the more work you put into your trip before travel, the more fun and relaxing the trip will be! Don't forget to check out an earlier post on Which Travel Size Fits You to help determine if group travel is for you! Currently I’m in the midst of planning a group trip with some friends overseas - which adds a bit more difficulty to this group travel planning process. They live in Europe and I’m in Ohio, so it's not like we can all sit down over coffee to hammer out the details in one go. But, thanks to modern technology there's group chat, video messages, and other ways to overcome the time differences. We know where we want to visit; Rome. Now we come to figuring out how long each of us are able to travel. ...
